Affordable Housing Initiative

Affordable Housing InitiativeThe Affordable Housing Initiative (AHI) was introduced under the Sustaining Progress agreement.  The purpose of the AHI is to provide homes for people who cannot afford to purchase a home on the open market.

Under the AHI, specific sites which are owned by the state and local authorities were identified for development of affordable housing.

Housing made available under the AHI is primarily for first time buyers.  Income thresholds can vary between local authorities, however, as a guide a single applicant can earn up to €58,000 and joint applicants can earn up to €75,000 combined income.  Mortgage repayments should not exceed 35% of an applicant's net income.
