Local Authorities

Social Housing Leasing Initiative

The Social Housing Leasing Initiative, commonly referred to as Social Leasing, is intended to provide local authorities with a new delivery mechanism for the provision of social housing.  There are three distinct approaches under the initiative:

  1. Long-term leasing by local authorities from the private sector
  2. Direct arrangements between the Department of Environment Heritage and Local Government and Approved Housing Bodies
  3. Temporary use of unsold affordable homes

Each of these approaches has their own unique arrangements.
